Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:ProtectedPages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Place requests for protection increases at the BOTTOM of this section. If you cannot find your request, check the archive of requests or, failing that, the page history. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – A few days semi-protection is hopefully enough to let the IP-hopper read the argumentation that I give for the removal of its unsourced edits. IP is now cranky and moving towards PAs. The Banner talk 11:18, 18 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Both a registered user and several IP addresses keep removing cited information from this article. The issue revolves around a section where Centrica announced their support for the project in the early days. Through edit summaries, and on the registered users' talk page (Jamessutcliffe), I have asked they they do not remove the information, but update the article to state that Centrica supported it at the start, but now do not because of whatever the reason is that they have changed their minds. At least three other users (Bored kittycat, TheM1sty, and im really bad at this) besides myself, all agree the information should be retained and amended in the prose to reflect the now lack of support.

Thanks for considering this. Regards. The joy of all things (talk) 14:31, 18 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-Protection: That IP sockpuppet is at it again, adding unsourced material. That page will need protection from them. BattleshipMan (talk) 15:10, 18 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Edit war in the UK section. The section keeps being replaced with the assertion that "There are no clothing laws in the UK". Reason: High level of IP vandalism for 3 years. Multiple IPs (47.229.171.222, 172.56.169.121, 212.114.251.53, 12.245.61.70, 32.142.50.118, 50.207.235.195, 97.68.255.154) have launched a persistent campaign over years. Moderator said it didn't have enough recent activity to justify protection but it was most recently vandalized on April 3rd by 97.68.255.154. It's sneaky vandalism like "as he was unable to be accepted by a real university" that is going unnoticed by editors and moderators for months. Or when editors do catch it they don't catch all of the vandalism. 38.42.65.129 (talk) 11:04, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    • Automated comment: A request for protection/unprotection for one or more pages in this request was recently made, and was denied at some point within the last 8 days.—cyberbot ITalk to my owner:Online 11:13, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think the moderator saw the most recent vandalism. He said the last case of vandalism was in September so there was "not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection." But there have been multiple edits vandalizing the page since then in February and in April. 38.42.65.129 (talk) 11:30, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: IP edit warring – IP persistently removing content while a discussion regarding it is ongoing at Talk:Guts World Tour. HorrorLover555 (talk) 11:25, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Redirect could use page protection. One IP already got blocked as a proxy and I expect more disruption from proxies. There has been also sockpuppetry. StephenMacky1 (talk) 11:39, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Persistent addition of unsourced content. Waxworker (talk) 12:28, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Unprotection: Removal of PC. The page is indef, so it is redundant. (CC) Tbhotch 17:53, 18 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
